Using Field-Based Learning to Improve Student Engagement and Teacher Professional Development: Meaningful Teaching and Learning Activities

This workshop will provide an overview of field-based learning and how it can be used in basic and higher education settings for teachers and professors. This workshop will present a case study titled "geographic learning through ecological inquires of water ecosystems in New York City" to provide a real-world exemplar of how one field-based learning project was implemented using the National Geographic learning framework. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to work in teams to brainstorm different ideas and to begin the process of developing their own field-based learning project(s) and lesson plan(s) for their own courses.
