Professor Douglas P. Newton Ph.D., D.Sc., teaches and researches in the School of Education of Durham University, UK. His current interest is in the kinds of purposeful thought common in formal education, such as, understanding, creativity, evaluative thought and decision making. This led to the very successful book, Teaching for Understanding (Routledge, 2012, 2nd ed.). Noting that students of equal ability and experience can, nevertheless, produce different mental products, he felt that the picture of teaching and learning had to be widened to include moods and emotions, at least. Sufficient research had accumulated to inform his highly-praised book, Thinking with Feeling (Routledge, 2014), and the monograph, In Two Minds (2016, ICIE).
